Skips Wastewater Services is in need of an experienced diesel / equipment mechanic skilled in the diagnosis and repair of commercial vehicles and heavy equipment. This position will follow orders from our president and shop manager. Skips has over 100 pieces of equipment, old and new, guaranteeing never having a boring day in the shop. The ideal candidate will have significant experience as a diesel mechanic. Class A or B license preferred.
Position Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on company vehicles and equipment
- Perform vehicle and equipment inspections – Federal DOT inspections
- Perform tire changes, brake repairs, oil changes and lubrication work
- Diagnose and repair fleet diesel equipment (trucks, trailers, excavation equipment, etc)
- Preventative maintenance of fleet diesel equipment
- Thorough documentation of repairs and preventative maintenance with electronic work orders
- Parts inventory management
- Operation of company vehicles and equipment to diagnose and repair the same
- Road-side service calls to assist drivers and employees in the field
- Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration prior to being deemed as “roadworthy”
- Experience with Hydraulics
- Welding/Fabrication Experience
- Safety and DOT compliance
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Work in a safe manner, per company, local, state and federal policies and regulations.
- Perform special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years minimum of diesel experience, both garage time & field time
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of five years related experience
- Valid CDL A or B preferred, not mandatory
- Acceptable motor vehicle record in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations
- Electrical Diagnostics experience
- Diesel DEF Systems experience
- Ability to work any schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays if needed
- Ability to utilize a desktop computer and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to frequently lift, push and/or pull weights in excess of 50 pounds, occasionally lift, push and/or pull weights in excess of 100 pounds
- Highly organized individual that can manage maintenance schedules of 70+ pieces of equipment
- Some travel may be required
- Ability to clearly communicate with all staff
This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test
Note: company tools will be provided
Compensation:
- Starts at $42-$48 per hour. Starting pay is dependent on previous experience.
- Health/Dental/Vision Insurance (after 90 days)
